My Journey to Knee Pain Relief

I was sitting in Sunday mass. The priest finished his homily and it was time to stand for the Creed. I had to use the pew in front of me to help stand. Knees felt sore. Wow! This is not the familiar soreness that comes after exercise. Sore knees at 52. What will this be like at 62? 72? I see ushers in their late seventies genuflecting, i.e., bending down on one knee with no issues. I need to do something. Here ius what I did:

Exercise

Exercise- I started walking a total of 5,000 steps, 3–-4 days per week.

Stretching

Stretching- Gentle stretching starching and movement before and after exercise are helpful to re-engage the muscles and joints since and after I have been sedentary for a while.

Diet

There are probably foods that I am eating that are inflammatory in my body. For me, this is wheat. Reducing inflammatory foods in my diet reduces overall pain and encourages healing where needed.

Castor oil

Finally, there is another thing that I can do. I have shared this with many clients. I apply
Castor Oil on my knees at bedtime. I rubbed a ¼ teaspoon of castor oil on each knee . I covered my knees with a compression sleeve. I could also use an ace bandage on top just to keep the oil from staining the sheets and blankets. I like the feeling of mild pressure on my knees from the compression sleeves. I slept with them on. You don’t have to sleep with them. You can rub castor oil on your knees whenever you want. The side effects are minimal—it’s just oil.

Overall, I feel better. My knees feel stronger. It is easier to stand up and. I am adding in body weight exercise like squats and lunges. I feel the difference in both my strength and stamina when going up flights of stairs ( yes, whenever I can, I skip the elevator and take the stairs).
